Rossotrudnichestvo launches a competition for a new name for the Agency. The familiar word “Rossotrudnichestvo” will continue to be used in official documentation, but the Agency encourages everyone to take part in the search for a second name – which is easy to remember and pronounce.
According to the head of Rossotrudnichestvo Yevgeny Primakov, such a need has been long overdue: “The network of our RCSC (Russian centers of science and culture) is a terrible abbreviation, in principle, like the word Rossotrudnichestvo itself, it is very difficult to pronounce for any foreigner”. He notes that Rossotrudnichestvo should be more friendly in its name if the agency wants to be a symbol of good nature, friendship and openness.
According to the terms of the competition, the name should consist of no more than two words, contain the root “Ros” or “Rus”, should be euphonious and well received by people who speak the main UN languages, should reflect the spirit of the organization and its mission is the implementation of international humanitarian cooperation, humanitarian diplomacy and assistance to international development.
Applications are accepted at firstname.lastname@example.org till January 3, 2021, and on January 20 a list of 10 most suitable names will be announced, for which a popular vote will be launched. The winner will be determined by the Public Council of Rossotrudnichestvo, taking into account the voting results.
The winner will be announced on February 1, 2021.
As a prize the winner, if from Russia, will have the opportunity to visit one of the Russian Centres of Science and Culture abroad and get acquainted with its activities. If the winner is from another country, he will have the opportunity to visit Russia with a tourist programme as a prize. The trip will take place as soon as the epidemiological situation permits.
