A toy from Malaysia widely known thanks to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, might decorate the New Year Tree of the Hermitage

The Charity Organization UmieAktif from Malaysia is participating in the International Contest “Create New Year Decoration for Hermitage”. Best handmade decorations from different countries will decorate the New Year Tree of one of the largest art museums in the world. To participate in the contest, the team of the Charity Organization UmieAktif created a collection of four toys made of Malaysian batik.

“Like all people, we belong to a family. Be it a family that we are born into, a family of friends, or even a family of strangers that have come together to help others. And so, we present to you, our family of UmieAktif Loving Monsters…. Loving Monsters wear their heart proudly on them to always remind themselves, and others that love is the only way to survive and be strong. There are a monster and an angel in each one of us. But as long as that heart glows true and always looks towards embracing every one we meet as a family, then good will always triumph over evil”, – written in the description of the competition work.

A week ago, the same toy attracted public attention after Russian President Vladimir Putin placed a toy on his desk during the 2020 APEC Economic Leaders’ Summit meeting under the chairmanship of Malaysia.

Information about the competition of the State Hermitage Museum and the “Smart Industrial Park AIRA” was provided to the Malaysian side by the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Malaysia – the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Kuala Lumpur within the framework of an agreement between Rossotrudnichestvo and the Union of Russian Museums. With the assistance of the Embassy of Russia in Malaysia, the toy was sent to Saint Petersburg.
